Three Against
 Bright Blue
David was asked why he painted these tall, out of proportion men. His answer was that in thought that in the future, that was the way we would develop, each century we are taller, but our heads remain the same size. In the future, man may look back on our art and ask "why are our heads so big?".

He also says in his biography he simplly finds them graceful and elegant.

From his biography: "Figures become Adickes-men when they are filtered through the artist's aesthetic convictions. But is is inadequate to explain their appeal in only visual terms, for they convey a definete mood..they have an essence of permanence, tranquility, solidity and monumentality"

For me, they just make me smile.

Interestingly, studies in space of the loss of gravity on bone and muscle mass say that is what might happen during space travel.
